Ernst Haeckel was a biologist, naturalist, philosopher, physician, professor, and artist (printmaker) who discovered and named thousands of new species.
He met Charles Darwin on a trip to the Canary Islands with his colleague, Hermann Fol. He was a full supporter of Darwin's work, and promoted and popularized it.
Haeckel was a world traveler and learner. His research brought him from Germany to the Mediterranean, The Canary Islands, Norway, Croatia, Malaysia, India, Egypt, Turkey, and Greece.
