Facts:
- Alan Bean was the fourth man to set foot on the moon in 1969 with Apollo 12 (the second human trip to the moon) at the age of 37.
- In 1981, he retired from NASA and devoted his time to painting.
- Alan Bean uses a hammer and a bronze spacesuit boot to texture many of his paintings.
- He is the only artist to have ever set foot on the moon and to use moon dust (from his spacesuit, which is legal) in his paintings.
